Abstract

Ruthenium complexes of the type [Ru(Cp)(L)2(N02)] (Cp = ?5-C5H5; L = PPh3(triphenylphosphine), 1/2 dppe (l,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane), l/2 dppm (bis(diphenylphosphino)methane), 1/2 dmpe (1,2-bis(dimethylphosphino)ethane)) were synthesized in three-step syntheses starting with RuCl3-3H2O. The [Ru(Cp)(L)2(NO)](PF6)2complexes were then synthesized by reaction of [Ru(Cp)(L)2(NO2)] with HPF6. Characterization of these complexes was accomplished through UV-vis, 1H NMR, and IR spectroscopies, cyclic voltammetry, and elemental analysis. The [Ru(Cp)(dppe)(NO)](PF6)2complex displays two reversible one-electron electrochemical reductions in the absence of atmospheric oxygen.
