Abstract
Research on the subject of speechwriting is shallow, scanty, and disorganized. This essay attempts to correct the problem by providing an in-depth examination of the practice. It summarizes and integrates some of the existing literature on speechwriting, considering areas of agreement, areas of disagreement, implications of speechwriting, and directions for future research.
