Abstract

Analysis, using x-ray diffraction and Extended X-ray Absorption Fine Structure Spectroscopy (EXAFS), of the reconstructive transition from strontium exchanged zeolite type-A through amorphous intermediates to Sr-anorthite has shown that, although long range order is lost, the environment around strontium remains essentially intact. EXAFS allows us to follow the mechanism of the solid state reaction which is dictated by the coordination requirements of strontium.
