Abstract
Structures for two antibiotic compounds, uliginosin A (I) and uliginosin B (II), have been deduced from a detailed study of the nmr, ir, uv, and mass spectra of these substances and of simple derivatives of them. The compounds contain phloroglucinol and filicinic acid residues and are closely related chemically to fern constituents such as aspidin and flavaspidic acid. The structures also resemble that of rottlerin which, like I and II, occurs in a higher plant.
