Abstract

Kyrgyzstan has been implementing gender equality policies since the country’s formation in 1991. And yet, violence against women remains a significant social problem. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the rates of domestic abuse experienced by women went up by 65%. Using the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) framework, the authors provide a bioecological analysis of societal systems that increase the vulnerability of women to intimate partner violence (IPV). Following the analysis, the authors offer a social work perspective for addressing the challenges facing women in IPV contexts.
